Group Health Commute Challenge
May 1-31, 2006

During May, National Bike Month, you are invited to join one of the biggest bike commuter events on the west coast: the 2006 Group Health Commute Challenge.

If bicycle commuting is new to you, this is a great program to get you started. For seasoned commuters, this is your chance to test your bike-commuting mettle by riding to work as often as you can during the month. Challenge yourself, challenge your workmates, and challenge other local businesses to be a part of the solution. Just commute FIVE times, or more, (round-trips) during the 30-day period and be eligible for great prizes.

"Grin and Bike It!"

First, appoint a Commute Challenge Team Captain to enter basic team member info on the website. Team Captains earn a free wicking long-sleeve shirt and an invitation to the "Captains Bash" at Cascade Bicycle Club!

Team Sign-up: It's fast and it's free!

  1. Team Captain forms team of 4 - 10 riders, decides on team name and registers online. You may register a team at ANY TIME between mid-April and May 31. Note: some Team Captain shirt sizes may be out after May 19 but everyone is welcome to join the Challenge until the last week of the contest.
  2. After registering, Team Captain picks up free shirt & posters at one of the package pick-ups. Captain uses resources from the Toolbox to challenge other departments or offices and to motivate and inspire their team!
  3. Team members bike to work at least five times during the month. Of course, the more you ride, the higher you rank! Team members can download a tally sheet (coming soon) from the website and keep track of their trip data; or just enter it directly online.
  4. Please do NOT report any extra recreational (eg, shopping or chores) mileage that you do in addition to your regular commute trip. NEW this year, you can only report FIVE DAYS maximum per week. If you work six days, we salute you but you cannot report it as mileage towards your total.

You don't have to join a Team or have Internet access to enter

You can enter as a solo participant in the Challenge; just visit the website and register as an "Individual". You will follow the same instructions as above.

To register by mail/ fax call 206-517-4826 to request a form or stop by the CBC office Mon-Fri 9:00 - 5:00.
