Group Health Commute Challenge
May 1-31, 2010
During May, National Bike Month, you are invited to join one of the biggest bike commuter events on the west coast: the 2010 Group Health Commute Challenge.
If bicycle commuting is new to you, this is a great program to get you started. For seasoned commuters, this is your chance to test your bike-commuting mettle by riding to work as often as you can during the month. Challenge yourself, challenge your workmates, and challenge other local businesses to be a part of the solution. Just commute FIVE times, or more, (round-trips) during the 30-day period and be eligible for great prizes.
First, appoint a Commute Challenge Team Captain to enter basic team member info on the website. Team Captains earn a free long-sleeve shirt (first-come, first-served, while supplies last) and an invitation to the "Captains Bash"! Captains who miss the Bash are welcome to pick-up team Commute Tags at any of the pick-up locations while supplies last.
2010 Team Registration is NOT open
Membership has its privileges!
There are many benefits of belonging to the nation's biggest bike club. Cascade is working for you all year long, educating new cyclists, advocating for safer streets and better buildings, and organizing hundreds of recreational rides. As further recognition to the riders who support our mission through club membership, we will have weekly random drawings for prizes for participants who are members of Cascade Bicycle Club. So what are you waiting for? Join us today!
Team Sign-up: It's fast and it's free!
2010 Registration Opens early April
1. Team Captain forms a team of 4 - 10 riders, decides on team name and registers online. You may register a team at ANY TIME between mid-April and May 31. If you have more than ten people then start a second team , ie one of 7 and one of 4 riders so that everyone can play!
2. After registering, Team Captain rallies troops and uses resources from the Toolbox to challenge other departments or offices and to motivate and inspire their team!
3. Team members bike to work at least five times during the month. Of course, the more you ride, the higher you rank! Team members (or the team captain) should enter ride data directly online each day or at the end of the week.
4. Please do NOT report any extra recreational (eg, shopping or chores) mileage that you do in addition to your regular commute trip. You can only report FIVE DAYS maximum per week. If you work six days, we salute you but you cannot report it as mileage towards your total.
New this year we will offer a new percentage of days worked/biked ranking that rewards those who bike the most during their own work week.
You don't have to join a Team to join the fun!
You can enter as a solo participant in the Challenge; just visit the website and register as an "Individual," then follow the above instructions. Note: Solo riders are not eligible for any Team Captain benefits, but you may swing by any of the Captains' pick-up events (except the Captain Bash) to pick up your free souvenir Commute ID tag.
